Extrude honing TPI intake......is it worth the $$$?

Just heard back from Extrude Hone regarding a quote to power flow my ported plenum, SLP runners, and Edelbrock intake - the package price was $650. Anyone on the board have this done? What were the results? It's for the 406ci motor I'm building. SC

yessh! 650 bucks. WEll I saw an article in an old car magazine that had the manifolds extrude honed. They gained beteween 4-8 hp above the non extrude honed manifolds.....while headers added around 20 hp. Its a tough call. I think it would help a little, but hey if you got the cash let it flow.....

Why in the name of God would you use a long runner intake on a 406....that's more torque than you need and you will murder your top end...put that $650 towards a short runner intake or a super ram....even with runners you are not making much power above 4800 rpm.
You will basically have a tow truck motor.

Hey Don,

Torque is where it is at... A 406 doesnt need to turn high rpms....at 5500 it does just fine, and can still turn consistent 12s...I dont call that a sacrifice, I call that daily driven FUN.

actually, Don...........it is a tow truck motor! It's going in my sweeeeeeet '68 Chevy short-bed! The one I use to tow projects, haul parts, and drive daily for my business. That's why I'm not going with the Miniram - this motor will rarely - if ever - see 5000+ RPM. I realistically don't even need the extrude-honing done, but, well I'm a hot-rodder at heart, and well, why not? It's just money. SC
