Do 3rd Gens use a unique starter Bolt Pattern?
Hey guys, I had to replace a bad starter on my 86 TA LB9. I also had a spare starter lying around (from a late 60's 350), but when I bolted the spare starter on, the starter gear didn't reach the flywheel, and just spun freely. I then looked on E-Bay and all the starters for sale there, have hte same bolt pattern as my spare:

The holes are straight across from each other, while the OEM starter on the TA had the starter bolt holes staggered. Do I have some kind of aftermarket starter on? Most importantly, do parts stores carry the starter with the staggered bolt pattern?
Thanks,
-Max

I may be wrong, but I think the OEM starters with the staggered bolt pattern are for a 168 tooth flywheels, and the ones with the bolt straight across were for the 153 tooth. Most aftermarket mini starters are straight across though.

I scored a hi torque mini starter for cheap, it was the str8 bolt pattern that the 3rd gens need, but I had to shave some of the housing off of the starter, the flywheel was actually hitting it...I have never heard of anyone doing this but all is well now.
