Got the car weighed.

I got the car weighed yesterday. What a pig!!! I have removed all the AC. The car weighed 3315. I thought they weighed 3250 stock. I was hoping for something around 3100. My buddies 98 TA weighted 3550ish and he has power everything. We both had full tanks of gas which (correct me if I am wrong) is about 8 pds per gallon.

stock is 3450 i think.
3100, you could get aluminum heads,
FG hood, anything alu instead of iron..
the doors are heavy as hell..

I dont think weight reduction is worth it.
unless u plan to get alum.. heads..

weight reduction is worth it if you drag race the car or want slightly better gas mileage

if you think weight reduction isnt worth it, go race a couple of light cars, see how much easier it is to get sub 3000lbs moving compared to 3300ish.

less wear on all driveline parts, better fuel economy, the list never ends, as to why light cars rock.

.1 for every 100 pounds. Weight reduction is a big thing.

Yeap 'Ian_F' my '81 is also a heavy monster. I think that’s why they have GM 10bolt 8.5"? Then again mine came with a TH-200C Go figure that logic?

----Off topic alert----
Hey mine does awsome on ICE! How about yours. People look at me crazy, but they do really good on ice for a sports car. I mean it's no front wheel drive, but then again it's not crap like the 3rd gen(spin when ever) or Vette(weather vane on the slightest slop).
My old 2nd gen was my all-weather ride for the longest time. Now it's relagated to a restoration in a few years. Till then, I have to mow the grass around her.

my lil opion is the 82 Z-28 hoods are the best, main reason is i have yet to see anyone around where i live with one. but there are a ton of irocs and RS with blisters and the shade things. My hood stands out and looks soo nice with my car. i'll get a pic of it after i get the tranny rebuilt ( 2 1/2 weeks to go) and it's all waxed up.

Im soooo excited, havent driven it since Oct.!!!!!
i miss it!

Blacker,

How much weight for 110 octane Torco race gas? We always figured 6.5 lbs per gallon.

that is probably max weight or gross vehicle weight, not the actual weight of your car.

Weight reducion is every thing! my camaro use to weigh 3250. My friend has a mits. mirage that weighed 2300, and with the stock motor with an intake it runs a 12.8 in the 1/4! and I ran a 14.9 with twice the motor (350 with intake and carb).

sticker on oyur door does not tell you weight of car, the numbers are GVW rating numbers, the max weight that car can weigh when is loaded down with max cargo, tells you total and thnre also front and rear spearately,

you think that the 5500 or so lbs stamped on the truck vin plates means it weighs 500 or so lbs ? nope, they actualyl weighed anywhwhere from 3500lbs in the 67-72 years, to around 4200lbs in the 73-87 years, at least 2wd anyways

i had a 68 longfleet with 355 and th350 and original 3.73 12 bolt, originally a 307 2 bbl and saginaw sm326 three speed manual on the column, and it only weighed 3850 on the scrap yard scale, it was a very quickkkkk truck ! i miss it alot..... :S all those eyars trucks needed to eb sleepers was a mild engine and good tranny and good rear tires and stick on some 71 72 or 73-87 spindles and rotors and calipers onto front of, and a 67-72 c20 brake booster and 71 72 master cylinder to make good safe stops with,
i will find another 68 longfleet to have fun with some day, cant wait!
