Inspection BS!!!!

I don't know if any of you live in CT but they are a__holes here. My handbrake was completly shot. Everything was fixed from calipers to caables(I guess thats it) but any ways. I bring it to inspection and my handbrake fails. That pissed me off. And I am not mad at the guys at teh gargae who I paid $600 to fix. I am mad at the idiots at the Inpection place. This is what they do. They pull the hand brake Put the car in drive and then push the gas. And I guess if your car moves it fails. Well newsflash. My car has 330 pounds of torqe and I don't care what you put on my rear wheels I will still be able to smoke 'em up. I hate theose idiots. I also failed for having a PONTIAC window banner on my windheild. That also pissed me off. I don't know. The thing is, if you put my handbrake on and if you were strong enough you could push my car and the rear wheels would stay locked. I don't know how much better your handbrake could be. But the test they do for handbrake seems kind of pointless. The handbrake is for holding your car when it is stopped, not when you are driving. AAAAAAAAAAH
Sorry for the post, had to let out some steam.

Dude, That is messed up. Doesnt sound like a valid test to me. In NC they just put it in drive and the brake must hold, no gas applied. Jeez, seems like every brake would fail if you tried hard enough pushing the gas. Im lucky I go to the same shop and have been going for 13 years. They know me, basically have to pass the sniffer and thats it .

Inspection pisses me off, anyway... on Wednesday, I left work early to go to a junkyard- my MAF harness wires were shot at both the connector and relay. As I'm halfway home, there was an inspection checkpoint. The officer stopped me, waved me on, stopped me again, then said "aw go ahead" and let me thru. Man, I woulda been screwed, especially with that SES light blinding me in the eyes. I can see me now, trying to explain "yes, the car's passed state emissions with those same rear tires for the past 4 years. No, the air conditioning tubes were smashed in an accident, so I removed the compressor. Yes, that's a 50-state-legal catalytic."

They worry about pollution from our cars.. what about the cars belching black smoke all the time? I still see those on the roads. Or the cars with shot suspensions? How many times have I seen a car oscillating front-to-back at 60 mph with shot shocks? Or that one time where an old Toy spun out next to me on the highway (nobody else hit him, I don't know how) and hit the divider? Apparently his tie-rod-arm snapped off, I guess. Our cars are probably some of the most emissions-friendly on here, and we can do it without AIR pumps or catalytic convertors and similar- but how DARE that stuff be removed! You'd think you were committing murder. I think the visual inspection is a load of horsecrap- as long as your car passes the dyno smog test, who CARES what's under the hood??

Canada's looking good.

Well hey I guess I got 6 more years before I'm a "classic" and hopefully the emissions standards relax a bit.

[steps down from soapbox]

Inspection checkpoint for emissions? Good god that just lends a little credence to the whole environazi theory. Man if upstate New York ever starts that stuff I'm heading for the hills to join a militia, seems like that borders on illegal search doesn't it?

What do they do about aftermarket driving lamps that are fully manual? Those inspectors in CT need to get out into the real world more often. I'll bet they'd appreciate a little extra lighting in moose country...

Over in England it's required to have your fog lights hooked up to where they come on with the highbeams hehe, can't wire it any other way.

Canadian Beast, that does not work if you bring a car from outside into British Columbia (or live in the Lower Mainland where they have emission testing).

I am not sure of Metro Toronto area, but I think they are instituing testing and emissions also.

In Manitoba, if you buy a car, you MUST have it safety tested before they'll let you have plates. Often the guy selling the car will have it Safety Tested, to make it easier to sell.

So, it REALLY depends on which part of Canada you live. And if my rumor mill in the Government is correct, there is discussion to having emissions (and limited safety testing) in all major cities within Canada - thanks to environmental lobbying. And there is a chance that the emission testing in BC will be expanded province wide.

Ah, the joys of working for the Government (and not just E.I or welfare).

Glenn I knowI bought my car in Abbostford, where it had to be aircared or whatever. I brought it back home to Dawson Creek where anything goes. Is there emmissions testing in Kamloops too?

Dude! Do you live in a communist state or what???? You failed for your e-brake and a pontiac sticker on your windshield!!!!!!!!!! that is total BS.

Here in CA all they care about is that all your vacuum hoses are in the right place to pass a visual under-hood inspection and what come out of your tailpipe, nothing else

It's fine with me, you need to have your hoses right for your car to run well and everyone should have low emissions anyway.
