Turn the key nothing happens?
Well i just replaced my starter, because i thought that was my problem at first. But it still does the same thing. When i turn the key the fuel pump and the gauge works, well basically everything works but the starter?
A while ago i put in a b&m megashifter in there and you know how there is the nuetral shut off switch and the reverse wires well i touched them all together, with the key turned and the started kicked over but i tried and tried to hot wire my car that way and it just wouldnt start so i know the starter is ok. but for some reason when i turn the key it just wont turn on.

Did you adjust the park/neutral switch after you put the new shifter in? Car will not start if it thinks it is in gear.

first off, have u checked ur battery?
after i changed my starter my battery was drained enough that the starter wouldnt even click, but all the gages and lights still worked.
if its not that it could be your PASS key a friend of mine has an RS that was doing exactly what you are discribing. we finnally figured out that it was the key. the way we checked it was that if it was, when you turn it to the start position have a buddy under the car with a voltage meter hooked up to the starter, if its not getting any juice then its prolly your key.

Also check your battery cables (and all other cables/connections). My positive cable at first looked fine at the battery. Decided to go ahead and replace it anyway (way cheaper than a starter). So decided to cut into the red rubber that encases the connector to the actual cable wire to find TONS of corrosion. $10 and 10 mins of install, and so far everything is good.

i thought it was my battery for a while but i tried to jump my car and it still would do nothing when i turn the key so im my mind it cant be the battery, but if i do check the battery do i want to get a load test or just test it with a voltometer?

i just went out to my garage and looked at my battery and there is a little bit of corrosion so should i just get a new battery or should i charge it?
man i hate this because i dont know enough about cars, and at the same time as my problem i just put on my SLP headers so i cant even hear what they sound like!!

hey man sorry you cant even here your new headers. here is another posibility. i'll probably have a bout ten people jump on me and tell me that thats not what it is, but i think that it is a possibility. the starter solenoid could be bad, im not sure if they go bad. but from what you say it sounds like it is doing the same thing as when you get those solenoid's hot. and since you just put on headers you might want to move it to a different location. there is a tech article on this at,

hope this helps.

that would be a good solution but the problem is that the starter has just been replaced. so therefore more than likely thats not the case. anyway thats called heat-sink, this will lock the starter up from turing(silinoied) from working when the starter gets to hot. have you tried stright wireing the starter? it could be a problem with your ignition. do you have vatts? a way you can tell is look at your key dose it have a resister chip in it? that could have gone bad(worn out) there's a swith attached to the steering collum with send the start signale to the starter.
hope this helps

What about the VATS??? when u turn the key does the security light show up and stay on??? if it does then its probley ur VATS fuse or ur key is just jacked up. cause it sounds like a VATS problem or if ur iroc is like mine, mine has a green and black wire under the sterring wheel that are connected toghter. i Discconected them and the car wouldent start. all it did was the same things u mention above. might check them things.

i checked my VATS fuse and it wasnt bad, but i heard there is a switch for the VATS, and i was wondering where that switch was?
I think its a wire to my shifter i have a dark green wire a purple wire, these wires are supposed to go to the nutral start thing on the B&M shifter. When i first put the shifter in i just wrapped the dark green wire and the purple wire together and didnt even connect it to my shifter for like 1 month. but the the whole starting starting happening so i tried to hook them to the shifter. but that didnt solve any of my problems. does anybody know if both of the wires are supposed to be getting power?

The VATS switch as you call it, is the little pellet in your ignition key. The wires for it run down the steering column and connect to a connector under the dash. From what you have been describing, this does not appear to be VATS related. Unless you have disconnected the dark green wire that goes from the VATS control module to the starter relay and the purple wire that goes to pin "E" of the park/neutral switch if it's an automatic. If it's a manual, then the purple wire would go to pin "A" of the clutch start switch.

congrats! but ouch on the 400 smackers.... just a bit more searching, and you couldve just bypassed the the system. there is a tech artical on the homepage on how to do so. i think its on the home page. but little too late now eh? glad you got your ride up and going again. BTW, gorgeous car man. nice and clean...
