327 on a budget, how does this setup look?

I have an old 327 short block out of a 67 camaro. The crank is a steel piece but it is spun pretty bad since the guy overrevved the motor and a connecting rod came loose. I disassembled the block and it looks ok and so does the crank, aside from a little machining. I was thining of getting the short block redone at my machine shop, crank turned, clean block,bore .030, new pistons, recondition rods, assembled. Then I want to throw on a set of L69 heads that I have collecting dust here in my shop. Heres the whole combo:
327 short block-> free
327 short block rebuild-> $500
L69 187 heads-> free
clean up the bowl area-> free
get heads redone-> $275
Rpm intake-> $125
600 carb-> free
XE 268H cam plus the whole valve train->free
Summit HEI distributor-> $150
Misc. things->$200???

I think it would be a good running motor for under 1500 bucks, I can easily do all the work assembling the motor. This swould be going in my cousin's 92 RS T-5 with 3.73's and he wants to do it on the cheap but have decent power. What do you guys think?

What exactly do you mean by "a connecting rod came loose"? The visual image that invokes doesn't sound very "ok" to me. If it was just a bearing getting spun or wiped out, both the crank journal and rod may have been wasted. The journal can be welded and re-ground, the rod is small journal so replacement may be an "issue".

187 heads are '87-later, and therefore not L69. I thought they were swirlports as well; if so you're killing the entire project. (I have a set of 416's in the Classifieds.)

I wouldn't use that carb, but that's my own little bias.

New valve springs would be very, very wise. 1.94" valves would help the poor thing breathe, but that's an added expense. Screw-in studs also highly recommended while you're at it.

Otherwise, it looks like a decent plan.

You know what I think that they weren't 187's, but they did come off a Monte Carlo SS 1987 though, and I checked them and they are NOT swirl ports. 081's maybe then I'll double check when I get home. I was an L69 with Q-jet and I have the manifold too. I would just elongate the 4 center holes on the RPM intake.

Oh yeah five7 kid, the end cap came off cause the nuts on the bolts broke. The crank just bent up the rod. I know I should also get it checked for straightness.

Use ARP bolts/nuts when you put it back together.

Just an FYI,

Here's what happens when the OTHER end comes loose.

If it's a 67, it may have the large journal crank. If it is one of these you may want to just buy a crank kit for a 350 and turn it into one. (late late 327 had large journal cranks same as the 350)
just a thought.

Nope, small journal 327. My crank and block aren't all jacked like the one AJ put in his pics. The seems to have been stopped right after it blew.
