Valve retainers&locks
I have a 350 with vortec heads and iam in the process of looking at a different cam, so many questions. I have been told a couple of different things on what the retainers and locks are that are on my stock vortec heads. I have been told that they are 7 degree and also 10 degree, it makes a big difference in price, which is it? Also does anybody know if my stock retainers will work with the Comp. 981 springs? I would really appreciate some input. Thanks NORT

They are 7 degree on your heads right now. You can use 10's, but you will need matching retainers for that.

You have 7 degree locks and retainers. What does that have to do with money? I don't know if they will work with those springs however.

from the comp catalog 981 springs are 1.254 diameter, same as stock. i doubt if you really want to run stock retainers and rotaters with your new set up. i'd buy a set of retainers to match the springs.
