Cam swap

What type of cam are in Chevy pickups, from the mid 90's? Not sure what year the truck is, but we're going to be pulling a motor out of a Chevy pickup at work and I was wondering what cam that would be and if I could use it and what type of gains I would have if I do use it.

Edit- I have a 305 TBI

Its more than likely a TBI motor, and thus a small duration TBI cam, probably flat tappet.

If you have an 87+ 305 motor, then you have a roller cam, and thus can't use the cam if its flat tappet, and vice versa.

Personally I wouldn't reuse a stock cam, unless you were putting an LT1 cam in a 305 TBI motor. NO use in reusing a flat tappet cam IMO, especially a stock one. Flat tappet cam and lifter kits are cheap anyways...

There were about 10 different cams. You need to find out exaclty what truck. Some were no bigger than your stock cam now.
