URGENT! I need this car for work!

My car just plain will not idle. It started this morning. I moved it on the driveway because of street sweeping and it was acting fine. Get in it a couple hours later for work and it won't hold an idle. Hell it won't even start unless I give it some gas. Runs like normal just won't idle. It is throwing no codes except 12 which is all clear. I even tried putting in an 88 IROC ECM with 350 prom and it still wouldn't idle. Disconnected the MAF and still no idle. All the spark plugs are on and not grounding. I don't see any broken vacuum lines or smell anything unusual. What in the hell could be the problem? I am getting really tired of this car and idling issues. This is the third time in a one year period of an issue causing no idle. Please any help guys? I really need this car to work properly since I go throw traffic everyday to work and balancing the gas and brake is no fun

Could it be a lack of fuel pressure??? Can you adjust it to where it will idle a little higher until you figure out the problem???

Could it possibly be the transmission (torque converter)? My tranny is acting up and this is making my cars idle jump and making the car want to die. Just an idea. Good luck!

Don't have a gauge to check fuel pressure at the house but if it was low pressure the car should act up above idle as well. I am hoping that it isn't anything tranny related. Does your car act normal above idle as well and just won't idle or is bad throughout the band?

EGR could be the culprit. Are you experiencing bad gas mileage aswell. Also are you getting a code? Maybe a vacuum leak at one of your gaskets? Just a few thoughts.

EGR was deleted on my car. Car isn't throwing around any codes either. The IAC on my car is brand new but I had a couple suggestions that the IAC motor could be gone causing the problem. They said when it goes out it won't throw a code so I will try putting one I have lying around in the car tomorrow after work to see if that helps any. It's gotta be something mechanical due to the fact of no codes. I am just hoping it's not a vacuum leak since those are a pain to look for.

Problem solved Problem turned out to be a stuck IAC. That goes to show you that even though the part might be new it can still go bad. That IAC was month old and still froze up. The pintle was stuck all the way out blocking the air. I put in another old one I had lying around and the car runs fine So if anyone else is having similar problems double check your IAC, even if it was replaced recently

Trans87,

My '87 T/A is doing the same thing right now. I will take a look at the IAC but I'm not sure where it is. Can someone direct me? Pic would be great!

Thanks.

The IAC is on the throttle body. When you are looking directly at the TB it is the bottom left. It has a plug going into it and looks like a big nut. You have to unscrew it and it will pop out. I attached a pic I found on the boards of the IAC.

It should look like this. If the tip of it is extended all the way out then it is stuck. The easiest way to remove the IAC is to take the TB off the car, which is very easy.
