5 speed to 6 speed?
How involved is it to install a 6 speed transmission in place of a 5 speed on a 89 IROC with a 305?
Hello all I'm new to the forum.

That is almost a direct bolt-in for your car.
I've swapped my car from Auto to 6-speed. Since you already have the T5, here is what all you will have to do:
-Use the T56 with the LT1 clutch, flywheel, and bellhousing.
-Use the hydraulic clutch master/slave cylinder from the LT1 car (GM part no 12559912). Just swap it out with your original one.
-Cut the shifter hole back about 2"
-get the custom crossmember from www.spohn.net It's 100bux
-make sure you have the torque arm brackets for the 6-speed.
-if you want the speedometer to work, you will have to order the custom extension housing from www.jagsthatrun.com
it's $300
Good luck!

Hey!
I've been toying with the idea of this swap, as I often go on road-trips from Tampa to Atlanta, and the thought of that 6th gear seems nice for the open interstate cruising! Is there any tranny-tunnel clearance problems to be aware of in this swap? Does a custom driveshaft have to be made (I'm not aware of the differences in external dimensions between the two trannys)? Thanks in advance guys!

5-speed w/ Centerforce clutch
3 1/2" exhaust w/ Flowmaster
Clarion, Kenwood, Eclipse, Polk, MTX, Autotek 800 watt stereo system
Grant wheel
Otherwise stock, & good for a 14.68 at DeSoto Dragstrip
More to come soon...
