Weird noise
The motor is a high mileage freshly rebuilt 350 out of a 90 1/2 ton pick-up.
We installed it after replacing the rings ,bearings, oil pump, cam and lifters, and having hte heads freshened. We put the stock 86 TPI equipment on it and has ran like a charm for a while. The motor has excellent oil pressure and compression check shows 110 psi average (the lowest being 102 psi).
Lately we noticed a weird noise it was making wether in or out of gear. When you stop the gas suddenly it gives an audible double knock. At first I thought a rod bearing or wrist pin, but after messing with it and looking it over I am stumped. the oil pressure remains rock solid, and if I bring the rpms up slowly no noise is present. I put the car on jackstands and had a freind work the throttle from above, the noise is in the very back 6 inches of the motor towards the bottom.
Car still has plenty of power.
Any ideas?
