steering box ?
I have an 89 rs, I've noticed in the last little while that the steering has not been the same as when I first got it. I took it to a mechanic and he said my steering box, and idle arm are not working well, probably worn out. What kind of options do I have? Are there different steering boxes or anything and is repairing this difficult?

Idler arm is fairly easy, the steering box is more difficult. I cant remember if the box for the RS is different than for, say, an Iroc, but thats pretty easy to find out when you get one. The only difference would be the ratio. If I were you and replacing that part, I would definitely spend some extra cash for a good rebuild, not a parts store cheapie because they just dont last if they were ever right to begin with. You may wanna change the idler arm, and check the other suspension stuff first before swapping the steering box, it might still be ok.

I'd say do the idler arm first. It's a common "wear item".. as is the center link. If your steering still sucks, then you could go after the expensive steering box replacement/rebuild option.
