I almost have the waterpump out, but it LOOKS like the powersteering bracket and such are slightly in the way.. Do I have to remove the powersteering crap to get the waterpump out without hassle, or what? Does the Power steering crap sort of slide out of the way like all the other accessories? I definitely do not want to ruin anything, if possible, and want to take off the least amount of stuff, also..
Oh.. and a sensor was broken, it's located directly above the waterpump, on the front of the engine block. I'm pretty sure it's a coolant temp sensor. Does this control the dash gauge at all? Or is that a different temp sensor? Does this broken sensor control anything about the 2nd Fan? My secondary fan never turns off.
I think so, my sensor above the water pump was disconnected for the longest time .. and my 2nd fan always came on and stayed on, I was stuck on it for awhile, I could be wrong.. but now that you mentioned it!!
One is the coolant temp sensor for the ECM. The other is the cold start switch. (for the ninth injector)
I have an 88 Formula 350, and I did not have to remove anything to get the water pump out. Quick, mostly painless, and easy.
If your secondary fan stays on all the time, check the wire for the secondary fan switch in the passenger side head, between 6 and 8. It prolly grounded out somewhere, or, the switch itself is bad. Have a look, it all looks well, disconnect the wire, (careful, the connector gets real brittle there....) and see if the fan turns off. If yes, replace the switch, if no, check the A/C compressor, there is a connector (single wire) on the back side. Try that one next. Fan still stay on? Time to look at the relay, and test it, if you can.
Have fun.
P.S. you may also want to check in the tech articles section for "total fan control" or some such.
Got the waterpump off, but the pulley isn't wanting to come off... I'll be working on that tomorrow.. It should just pop off, right? Or will I need a special puller or somehing? (Steering wheel puller won't work).. If not, maybe I need to bang it around a bit.
Also, my mom brought up that maybe I should replace the thermostat, the car has no cooling problems, but as preventive maintenance, since I already have all this crap appart. Think I should go ahead? Which hose is the thermostat at, and what is the stock temp it's set for?
The water pump pulley is held on by 4 bolts around the "perimeter", you really cant miss them and I'm sure you removed them. Other than that, there is a large "locator" pin in the center, but that has no purpose as far as attaching goes. If it's stubbord, give it a few good whacks.
The thermostat is on the intake, under the water neck. Stock temp is 195°F.
alright, got it... I'm in the process of getting everything back together... (have to replace one that sensor, before I can get the alternator on, i believe)
only the Airpump and alternator are not attached, at the moment. I have a bracket that goes between the alternator and the airpump, but I honestly can't remember how it goes... I think both the airpump and alternator attach to it. I may have TWO brackets that I took off, but I honestly can't remember if there was one or two on the desk.
Anyone have a picture of the same setup (87 iroc-z, 350 TPI, v-belt setup).. maybe with just the alternator taken off, if possible... I could figure it out from a picture of that
I had to take my water pump off to get to my camshaft... it was rather simple... the power steering bracket will swing out of the way with just one bolt remaining, the rest of the bolts are pretty much right at your face lol.
The thermostat I believe is like 20 dollars, so why not replace it i guess... it's a 20 mins (if that if you've already got it drained of coolant) job.
I'm not completely sure if this is how it's supposed to be.
The airpump adjustment bracket.. is that correct? I'm not so sure if it is or not. There is a leftover round hole at the bottom of the bracket. The only bolt the bracket is held on by is through a SQUARE hole... I don't think this is correct, but it seems to fit, so I don't know..
Also, there is one hole on the heads... is something supposed to go there? I think i'm out of bolts.
I swear, it's a coolant temperature sensor..
However, the part at Advance Auto looks a lot different. The connector seems similar, but I'm not sure if it would work. Is this like the same part, just revised, and updated, or something?
... so what would I ask for at Advance Auto?
I look up COLD START on their website.. and it comes up with "Cold Start Valve".. with no picture.. I seriously hope that's not it, because it's 60-70$ o_O
if that were broken, would it cause the injector to constantly stay on perhaps?
That probably is it.. I looked it up at rock auto and its $56. I believe it is a GP Sorensen 800-2000 (see if that comes up in their system), but I don't think it does.
EDIT: Okay, checked with my work (), looks like it is no longer available in GP Sorensen (the number is discontinued)...
