Broken bolt in the crossmember
Ok i've never had a bolt break on me before so i'm not sure what to do. I did a search and it looks like this is the best solution someone correct me if I get somthing wrong or if their is a better way.
First try to use a hammer and a small punch to turn the bolt out.
If that fails drill out the bolt with a left handed bit, have the drill around 800rpm's and that may break it loose or atleast loosen it a little. Also which size bit would I use?
If that fails i've heard conflicting opinions of wheather or not to try a bolt extractor. I've heard people swear by them and seen people refuse to use them. Should one break inside the bolt how hard is it to remove? I've heard you need a dimond tipped bit? Are those hard to use, expensive, require a special drill, etc?
After all else fails use a helicoil. I'm a little lost on exactly how a helicoil works is their a differant helicoil kit for each size bolt? I think the crossmember bolts are 10-1.5 but I would have to recheck it.
And what is this i've heard about useing a dremel and cutting a slit to remove it with a punch/screwdriver? The bolt is about 1/4 of an inch ip inside the frame rail or whatever it threads into, is their any way to use this method? I don't own a dremel so i'm not sure what accesories are available.
As far as bits go this is what I would want right?

And for an extractor this?
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....&group_ID=1261
or this?
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....&group_ID=1261
one is 8-10mm, the other is 10-16mm is it better to go with the bigger one or the smaller one?
Maybie somthing like this would be good for this and to have around incase of any future mishaps?

Thanks for any help.

Yeah i'm an idiot, the last time I did the tranny mount I noticed the bolts were kind of old and brittle but I reused them anyway they just said no more
I learned an important lesson though, the five minutes I saved not going to the parts store for a few new bolts really wasn't worth it in the long run. Oh well, everything is new now, besides that one broken in there.

I've never had much luck with the spiral extractors. I always can get the taper bit extractors to work though. You don't even want to try and remove a broken extractor! I don't even like to talk about breaking those! Sometimes drilling the hole for an extractor loosens the bolt up enough that you can turn it with a punch. For a 10mm bolt you need to use the 8-10mm extractor.
If you can drill straight a method I've used is to drill the bolt out with progressively larger bits until only the threads are left, than use a tap to clean out the remains. You do have to drill a straight hole through the bolt or you will risk buggering it up even worse.

What is a taper bit extractor, one of those?

How do they work, drill into the bolt then use those to try and turn it out?
And who says you have to drill straight, isn't that what drill guides are for?

Yes. You use an extractor by drilling a hole in the bolt. So you might as well try that left hand bit first. One thing I see people try to do is start the extractor like it was a bolt...just turn it in to the hole...not going to work. You need to hit it with a hammer to seat it in the hole so it will grip as soon as you start turning. Don't hit it too hard, just enough that it doesn't fall out of the hole. Sometimes, while turning it, I've had to tap with a hammer also, to keep it seated in the hole.
