Throttle response weak from a stop ?
Just wanted to get a couple of other opinions..
I have a fresh rebuilt 305, all new MSD ingnition, coil & distributor.. New edelbrock 1406 carb..
From a stop if I get on the gas hard, my car just has no pull it boggs down.. If I let off the gas & only use 1/4 throttle it goes fine.. Once I get going, if I floor it there is no problem..
Someone told me it sounds like the cat might be clogged up..
Does this sound like it might be my problem?
Thanks

I think you may have another problem. A clogged converter will typically prevent the engine from even taching up to anything higher than a couple thousand RPMs. If you want to see if its clogged, get up under the car and bang on the cat with a mallet. If it rattles its shot.

Its not the cat, otherwise if you floored while the car was moving it would do the same thing.
Its a timing or fuel issue. Since you have an aftermarket carb and dist. on there I'll throw both at you.
The pump shot is probably too much. You may also have too large of jets and/or rods in the carb. Do you know what size rods and jets are in there now?
If its timing, its getting too much advance pulled out by the vacuum advance (if I remember correctly).
Definitely a tuning issue.

I have had similar problems with the 1406's before, and I belive it was an Overly large pumpshot. This was on a 305 as well and it did exactly as your describe...
