Simple question...

I get different answers from everyone I talk to.

Is the line in between the 100 and 220 160 degrees or 190?

Good question I have always thought the middle line was 160?

So I'd be interested too what the verdict was.

I'd say it is 160. On my car with a 200/180 fan switch, the fan cuts off before the needle gets down to the line.
I also have a 180 stat and the needle is usually just above the line when driving around town.

160, but keep in mind it's not the most accurate guage in the world.

Yeah that's for sure. Mine's off by exactly 22 degrees.
If you want accuracy, consider an Autometer 3-pack, and put them either on the pillar or underneath the center vents.
I'm considering that myself. My oil pressure gauge quit working entirely, and the voltmeter varies as well. Stock gauges are crap. They're barely more than idiot lights.

Rockin Iroc, maybe check your contacts on the back of the gauge cluster. They do thend to play up with the cluster is not seated properly.

I don't really have much complaints with the stock gauges, but the water temp gauge is a bit off on mine too.

The first unmaked dash is 160 Deg, and increases by 20 Deg after the 220 mark.

100
160
220
240
250 start of the red zone
260 top of the red

Now whats so hard about that? As quoted not the most accurate gage, but that what you have to use.

I always said it was 160, but people kept saying 190.

190 huh?

So the needle would take longer to reach the first marker, than it would to go from the first to the middle (given a constant rate of heating up)? That would be interesting!

Now I have a 180 deg thermostat and my gage will peg a little less then mid way between 160 & 220 with the A/C off. So I can say my gage is pretty close. Now with the A/C on it tends to climb toward 240 degs mark.
