I am about to buy some heads for my 305 and they are shaved down .020 and I needed to know if I have to use shims on the distributor?

You'd have to shave the intake or the intake face on the heads to have the distributor be off. Only thing you will have from them is a misaligned port at the intake by .020 (maybe) but thats too little to worry about.
Why are they shaved .020? Thats quite a bit for just cleaning them up.
