what is wrong??????

ok here is my situation i kinda ran out of gas last night as i was pulling into the gas station and i put some gas in and after i put the gas in my car was acting like it was still out of gas. every time i stopped at a light it would sputter and die. and this morning when i drove it it was fine for about 15 miles and it started acting up again. then tonight when i drove it it was fine for about 10 miles and it did it again.

If this is a FI car, or a carb car with an in-tank fuel pump, then the pump is incapable of surviving with no fuel. The fuel is its coolant. Without being submerged in fuel, the pump motor burns up.

At the TV station I worked at for some years, we had several F*rd vans. The newer ones had a problem with their gas gauge such that it would break about every 6 months or so. Then the photogs would jump in and drive them somewhere, and they'd run out of gas. About twice of that was all it took to toast a fuel pump. One of them (a 98 model) was on its 3rd fuel pump and gas gauge sending unit when I left the station in mid-2000, all of them under warranty.

Change your fuel filter. When you run out of gas one of two(or both) things happens in my experience:
1. The fuel filter and/or lines become clogged with crap at the bottom of the tank. 2. The fuel pump dies.

Dry gas is alcohol. It bonds with water and will still burn, therby removing water from your tank. They sell it at most parts stores, and all marine stores.
