Cold Start Problem/Question?.......
Hey Guys, I have been having a problem lately when starting my car when it is cold. Like when I got to start it after I get out of work after it sits about 9 hours. I live in Florida, but the weather has been in the 30's in the mornings and pretty damn cold when I get out of work at 6.pm. I have never had this problem before, until this winter, is when i noticed it. It will fire right up, and barely run, and then die. it will start right up, and if I keep it reved up a little for about 30 seconds it will start to idle and be ok. I have a zz4 motor, #24 LB injectors, Holley Adjustable Fuel pressure reg, and a ram air set up. It also alot of times will idle up and down and up and down continuosly when it isn't that cold out, for about a minute before idling normal. Could this be the Idle Air Control Valve? I have already replaced the Coolant temp sensor. Any help would be appreciated. THanks!

Hey man, thanks for the response. No I do not have any codes. Isn't checking that TPS involved? Once in a great while, the Service engine light will come on for about 10 seconds and then go off. And that is rare for it to do that. Will it still store a code like that?
thanks

If I'm right TPI cars, fuel injected ones in general, don't have a choke in the traditional sense. The ECM operates in open loop, richer mixture with no O2 sensor(s),till the temp sensors tell it the motor has reached proper emissions operating tempature. You have the IAC,MAF,TPS and MAP sensors that work with a preset fast idle/cold engine program. And the ECM should store a code till you clear it.Usually by disconnecting the battery or with a scan tool.My '95 had a cold idle problem that turned out to be a stuck IAC.

Thanks man. I gotta figure this out. I am not used to it running like crap when cold. I am used to turning the key and it idles up fine. I always had a up & down idling problem, but it always ran fine, never wanted to die on me.

Replace the IAC motor (senser).Same problem i had with my formula, and when i took it out it would not move in or out just stayed stuck. The new IAC motor should move. Then reset the IAC position (relearn).I did the relearn with a snap on scanner.

Hey man, if I buy the IAC sensor, how hard is it to install, and how do I "re-learn it" Do I need a scanner, or can i just put it in, and after driving it for a while it will re-learn itself (like when you unhook the battery and the car runs like crap, but then relearns itself) I hope you can understand that. LOL because I almost cant
Thanks

nope totally understood. There is a good sticky for IAC replacement. Do a seach on it.. It gives you all the proper steps and what not. I did replacement on one like 2 months ago.
You'll need to clean throttle body, adjust the min idle TPS adjustment, stuff like that. Sounds hard but it's easy. Check it out. It would be nice if you have a scanner but you can do without it too.
good luck

Ok, I will do a search. Thanks Bro! It would be nice if it was just a plug in.
