bolt/stud fastener questions

Does anyone know who sells individual assorted varieties of the fastener pictured? Does this have a technical name? Thanks

Not sure from the pic if that's an exhaust stud or a rocker arm stud, but ARP is usually your best bet for top quality bolts.

This particular bolt/stud is from a th350 tailshaft where it attaches a exhaust hanger. You can find these on waterpumps, intakes, exhaust manifolds, etc. I can't find anything on ARP's site that resembles this. I need a selection to choose from. I don't know how to narrow a search because I don't have a proper name for it.

Transmission: T10, hurst shifter
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt, true-trac, 3.73
collared stud. it has the same threads on both sides?
say 7/16-14 ? just different lengths?
unequal length collared stud. 7/16"NC threads.

mcmaster carr didn't have any collared studs like that, that I could find.
maybe email ARP. not quite a common enough thing to be on a shelf in a store.

That's just what they want you to think. Ask ARP why they don't sell seat belt anchor bolts. Ask them about FQA support. Ask them about Q1, GM145, QS9001, ecetera. Ask them if they hard roll all their critical engine fasteners. Ask if they can meet even Honda's standards. I'm not saying they don't offer a product that is adequate. If they've done their homework, you probably won't have any trouble with them. I only take exception to the "top quaility" comment.

The one thing ARP has done is to bring together a lot of fasteners that automotive people seem to use. That's convenience, not necessarily "top quality" products. Accel has brought together a lot of ignition and management products, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are the best.

If your not having any luck finding one just make one from some all-thread that is the right thread size, and put a nut on it to set it, like using head studs except with extra threads to hook your hanger to.

thanks kwik and Sonix, I know I can rig something but I'd just like to be able to find a place online where I can order the exact ones I need. I've done quite a bit of searching without much luck. Some call them "collar studs" others "double ended bolts". I've found mfgs who will make quantities to order but no distributors selling a variety in small amounts. I may have to get some start up money and start my own business.

well if you do find a supplier or a good solution, do post it. I haven't been able to find a supplier of studs with different threads on each end, or collared studs at all. (aside from ARP, but those only seem to come in containers for the purpose, ie, rocker studs for chev, pack of 16...)

Have you tried Fastenal? Service Supply? Field Fastener?

Try finding double collared studs. Those are hard to find. They have to be made on an open die header, and there aren't many of those left in the world.

I agree with ya Merlin. When I mentioned ARP, I was probably referring more to "convenience" than quality. You especially drove the point home by using Accel as another example! I would take Vader's suggestion and try Fastenal or some other bolt supply place. If that fails, there's always the good old boneyards. I've probably got a whole organizer drawer full of studs like that from tearing down misc. engines over the years.
