What cam to get for my application?

I know a lot of the engine is mismatched, its just what was lying around at my neighbors last year.
327 bored .060 over
750double pumper
Performer Intake and Cam
Performer RPM Heads
Full Roller Rockers
Hookersuper Comp LT with true dual Supers 40's
Full MSD ignition

Obviously the cam is horrible. Any suggestions on a cam that will boost my hp greatly and still have good low end and run half decent? This is not a daily driver. The new Crane Zcams and Crane Powermax cams kind of caught my attention. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks

what kind of power band you looking for?
2-6krpm sorta thing?

crane zcams and powermax are good choices. lunati 60103 or 60104 or comp xe268/274. I think any of those would work quite nice.

go with a voodoo 256 with high ratio rockers, peak hp will be just under 6k rpm. and the intake really needs to be replaced too

I agree with the XE268H. You are also going to want around a 2500-2800 stall to go with it.

I'd go with the XE256 or 262, or the VooDoo cams of about the same specs like ap72 mentioned, or the Crane product that's similar, if that intake stays. Anything bigger such as the XE268 or 274 (or comparable Lunati & Crane) would be a gross mismatch to the intake.

On the other hand, if you used a Performer RPM instead, they'd be killer. It would need A BUNCH of stall though; I'd suggest 3000 with the XE268, or 3400 with a 274.

No stall, its a standard. Hopefully soon I'm getting the Performer RPM manifold so does the XE268 sound good then?

Probably so. Although it won't have much low end. But it'll run good at the big end.

What gears? at least 3.73 I hope?

sofa, you think a 268 cam, wouldn't have much bottom end grunt? Comp says 1800-5800 right?

hmm, I got the lunati 60103 (slightly larger), and I was thinking its a good all around cam. 2-6k rpm rated powerband.

That's 1800-5800, in a 350. It will favor a womewhat higher RPM range, couple hundred RPM, in a 327.

It sounds like this is a race-only situation, so there's not much point in trying to stretch "low end" to the extent that you would if it was a street car.

Like any racing application, I'd always suggest launching it at the RPM as close to peak torque as possible without going up in smoke; and shifting at peak HP, more or less. Anything below peak torque, by definition, is therefore "low end".

I recomended this cam for another thirdgen-er and it worked very well. He really liked it. Powerfull yet very flexable and easy to live with.

Needs 10:1 compression (small dome on 327 pistons,combined with 64cc heads) and a bit of rear gear (3.73-4.10.) recurve the distributor for increased initial timing at idle.

This is a "street performance" solid lifter cam thats easy to live with but makes great street power.
The 114 LSA makes it nice and tame @ idle and cruise.
