engine dies after start up
Problem with my 89 GTA 5.7 lt TPI. The problem was at first it was a hot day and car was in a parade. At the end of the parade it died. Try to start it and it would start but it would die if I pressed the accelerator. I had it towed and next day it started and ran but it started to cut out when the gas pedal was pressed. The next day I started it and finally got it to idle,(rough) but could only idle it around the block. If I pressed the gas, it died. Finally I was going to take it to a mechanic the next day but it started and ran a few seconds and died. Kept trying to start it again, but it turns over but dies immediately. Any help would be appreciated. One more thing, this car was in storage for 10 years and not started until a few months ago.

Mine did something similar a few years ago... turned out to be the fuel pump failing. I ended up taking mine to GM, and since the pump is in the tank, it cost lots of $ to fix.
Hope this helps.

Check the fuel pressure and it will tell you if you have a bad pump or possibly clogged fuel filter. Also I would check the injector impedance for a shorted injector. And it would be a good idea to replace the ignition module as well.

Check everything else first.
Check everything else first. I did. Mine ended up being a timing chain was stretched. Or what ever you call it.
