5.7 or 6in rods??

I am building a 383 the will be looking at around 400 hp. the cam and head set up will be making power in the 3,000-6,100 RPM. I was thinking of using 5.7 rods since they are shorter and would be better for spinning the higher rpm, but one of my buddies to0ld me that the only way to go is with a 6 in rod. What would be the best for what i will be doing. car will be a street/strip car, wont be a DD and when it is drivin it will be driven hard. can anyone give me some advice?

its always desireable to stuff the longest rod you can in an engine...dwells longer at TDC and less sideload on the cylinder walls...if you can stuff a 6 inch rod in there i say go for it...you will make more hp/and torque than with the 5.7 thats for sure...

ps...its also easier to wind a motor out at higher rpms with a longer rod due to the the ratio than with a shorter (more eratic in movements than the longer)....

It's not worth the difference in price. I'd say use the 5.7" rod for your application.

eBay Motors: SBC Chevy Scat 6.0 Bushed 4340 Steel I Beam Rods (item 190007519545 end time Jul-21-06 22:00:00 PDT)

and the pressed pins are cheaper than the bushed...id still say go for the 6"...unless you already have 5.7s...$175 for bushed 4340 i beam rods...not bad...and that was just from 1 search off ebay....

well then, I will enjoy eating my own words.

Make sure the pistons for 6" rods are still in a decent price range, and you can find the dish/dome/whatever size you want.

The longer rod will push the power/torque curves higher RPM wise. Spinning the motor to only 6000 you wont be taking full advantage of the longer rod. You'd be better off with the shorter of the two. It'll make better power, especially for a street motor.
