Converting from stock carg to regular carb?
I have an 87' formula with an lg4 Carbed v8 and a 4 spd auto trans. I have a about a 300 horse 350 that I want to put in with a regular quadrajet and a regular vacuum andvance distributor. I guess I want to de-computerize the whole engine so I can work on the thing but I want to still have the overdrive trans work like normal. I guess what I want to know is what can I rip out and what has to stay so I don't get codes and service engine soon lights. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks, Bret

Why do you want to get rid of the computer? It's not limiting you in any way.

You cant "half azz" this type of job, you either completely remove the ecm or you keep all the stock components. (or pull the SES light so it doesnt annoy you, and hope it keeps functioning for the lockup...)
If you are dead set on removing the ECM you will need to find some way of operating the TCC since that was part of the ECMs job. This can be acheived by either buying an aftermarket kit or by using a vac switch from a 'canadian' version of the car (the old carbed canadian versions had no ecm, thus used a vac switch to operate the TCC)
Other than that you should be pretty much good to go, cruise functions on a seperate brain box if you have cruise.
Not sure if their are too many other major things to worry about covering...

One thing I guess is I already have a great working quadrajet on my new motor and my original carb needs some major work. Next I want to be able to tune the car myself the old fashioned way and lastly I want to remove all excess wire harness and emissions components to clean up the engine bay and so i can have nice access to the whole engine.

Well then, just replace the Quadrajet and the distributor, and pick a method to control the TCC. It's about as near a direct swap as you can get.
