Car sat for 2 years now very hard to keep running
I know morbid curiosity probably led you to look at this thread but I need a little advice here.
My car has sit for two years now and has not been started. The motor has about 8K miles on it. Now, it will start but immediately try to die. I can get it to run if I give it gas and keep the throttle down but when I let off it [U]will[U]die. Other symptoms include a lean indication (air/fuel ratio gauge) when it runs at high rpm yet it smells like it is running rich.
I have replaced the fuel filter (twice), put in new plugs, and added some fuel treatment. I have bought a TBI rebuild kit but haven't rebuilt it yet.
Any ideas of what I should try next? Distributor cap maybe? O2 sensor?

I just picked up my camaro from my uncle after it sat for around a year and a half.......it too would not run under like 3k rpm.....I limped it to the gas station and put high test in it, threw a bottle of fuel injector cleaner, and drove it 6hrs home It was rough the first couple hours home and still even when I got it home it ran like crap but it was def better than when I first picked it up.......my advice is JUST DRIVE IT!.......worked for me

This happened to me and my roomate on our way back form the indy 500. Mind you we were not in a camaro but an 84 corvette. The fuel pump turned out to be bad. the car would run fine above 3k rpm with injector cleaner in it but under that it would die. My advice is to get your fuel pump checked. In a corvette they are suppoused to pump like 35 psi and his was only pumping about 8psi.

I should have put this in the original post probably, but the fuel pump is putting out 13-14 psi which is pretty good for a stock pump. I have a gauge that reads the output right before it goes into the throttle body. However, the fuel pump has been around for about 17 years.

It's the bad gas.
I'd siffen that shyt out and put fresh stuff in. Get as much out of it as possible.
Try it.

Well at least you know its not a fuel pump.Bad gas could be the problem. You could also have alot of moisture in the tank.

I may try the siffen thing, I know that when I changed out the fuel filter the gas was really yellow looking but I thought that was the additive I put in. I wonder...could diesel fuel in the gas cause these symptoms too? The other day we had a message that our gas station had diesel contamination in their 93 octane gas for about 4 days and I know that I did put in about 3-4 gallons of 93 octane but I can't remember if it was during those 3-4 days.

i had a similar problem in mine, it wouldn't idle and ran rough at higher rpms. turned out to be bad gas which also fouled the plugs in a ridiculously short time. double check the plugs after you get the old gas out

OK I attempted to syphon out the gas but I couldn't even get the hose down into the tank. Has anyone else tried to syphon gas out of our style of Camaros? I couldn't get the hose past the crook of the gas tank for some reason. I may need a stronger hose is the only thing I can think of. Any thoughts?
