What the Ottoman Emperor really meant was that if it's a 60º V-6 variety, it will fit. Obviously, the 90º Chevy V-6 models won't fit, since they are the same as the V-8 bell pattern.

so....do I go by the bolt pattern on my engine? I can eyeball the bolt patterns, Im just not sure what my bellhousing looks like now. Cant really see the top of it, but from what i saw it looked like a v8 tranny will. I posted a classified for my tranny for sale or trade, hopefully someone with a v6 auto tranny will want it. how do I know what degree my engine is to tell if it will bolt or not? vader, i wish you lived close to me, I would pull ya over here to do some labor or just watch over me and tell me what i need. I used to think I knew quite a bit....until I started talking to alot of the people on this site

To rephrase:
You are looking from an automatic 700 from a v6 camaro or firebird. The v8 version will not work.

The 6-cyl motors that come in these cars (2.8, 3.1) are 60°.
No 90° ones were ever used in them (the old Chevy 3.8, 4.3).
The bolt pattern on the back of the engine is different, as a moment or 2 of trolling eBay would easily reveal.
Bell housings for manual trans; auto trans of course has the same bolt patterns; V8 on top, 6-cyl below
