Re: vats system help
Yeah it does sound like there's a problem with the VATS box. The delay timer sounds like it's malfunctioning. According to the factory service manual, the decoder box is located behind the LH side of the instrument panel, near the steering column. Unless you're worried about keeping the VATS system functional, I'd highly recommend bypassing it. Go to www.tpiparts.net. They sell a VATS bypass module for $40. It's located in the electronics section of the online catalog. I despise the VATS system because the only thing it seems to be good for most of the time is disabling the actual owner of the car from being able to drive anywhere.

Re: vats system help
I suggest disabling it as well, it's a PITA and the only thing that has left me stranded.
If the key/tumbler is bad then just measure the resistance of the key and jumper the two yellow wires under the dash with resistors of the same value.

Re: vats system help
This post has helped me tremendously. I was posting about the '91 Firebird, and this is the ultimate in posts in my opinion.
That bypass will get the V6 up and running and I'll have a vehicle with which I can start to once again conduct business as usual.
Thanks to you all!

Re: vats system help
The key and lock tumbler are in good working order as I have them checked by a lock smith. I ordered the vats bypass I will post up then I receive it and have it installed. Thanks again for the help

Re: vats system help
I installed the vats-030 bypass module. it did not solve the problem. Then someone told me that the ignition module could be bad. So I changed it and still have the same problem. Any other suggestions
