Loses oil pressure when hitting brakes.

I am having a problem when I hit the brakes. I first noticed that when I hit the brakes at the end of the dragstrip my oil pressure dropped to 0 until I got the car stopped or started to accelerate again. It also does this if it's not been at WOT. If I come to a stop sign it will also do this.

I've had cars that were low on oil to do this but this engine has enough oil in it. I'm starting to think the oil pump pickup tube fell off or something. Any input would be great.

Hopefully that is all it is. Anyone else think that's what it is.

Re: Loses oil pressure when hitting brakes.

Either the pickup tube fell off or you need an oil pan with a baffle to keep the oil in the sump area during hard braking.

When my pickup tube fell off early in the season, my low oil pressure warning light came on before my oil accumulator dumped more oil into the galleries saving the engine from oil starvation. Warning light comes on below 15 psi. Accumulator repressurizes the galleries at 5 psi.

Re: Loses oil pressure when hitting brakes.

I saw it's the pickup. My friends 69 chevelle did the same thing. Out an extra quart of oil in it and see if it acts better. The extra oil will help keep the hole in the pump covered. But sounds like it's time to drop the pan.

I'm pulling the motor in a couple of days. Thanks for the input.
