Are Double Hump heads Worth keeping?
I have a set of double hump heads that are on the engine I got in a trade. The engine threw a rod so Im considering my options...1)purchase new shortblock and reuse heads with new cam, 2) sell heads to fund new stroker longblock that would come with everything from intake to oil pan. The difference in price is $500-$700.
The casting # on the heads is 3991492 which going by what ive read on hot rodder mag. is the best one of the double hump heads and typically came with 2.02" and 1.60" valves and were 64cc heads with 160cc intake runners.
So should I keep these and use on a new bottom end or should I sell them? If I sell them How much could I get for them?

30+ years ago they were good factory heads since there was little to no aftermarket stuff. By today's standards, there are better factory heads and much better aftermarket heads available.
Sell the heads to someone building a numbers matching car and buy a set of Darts or even some cheap aluminum heads for about the same price as what you could sell those for.

Thanks for the reply Stephen. So since its probably better to sell them, in your experience how much could I sell these for? I dont expect to make a killing but I dont want to give them away either. I need to fund the new engine.

Depends how much has been done to them. If they've been ported out, bigger valve springs, screw in studs, bigger valves, they can fetch a few more bucks than untouched heads although a Stock Eliminator racer may want untouched heads even more.
It's best to check Ebay regularly to see how much they typically go for. Fully assembled with new stuff, they could go for $500-$1000 for the pair. Nothing special, bone stock heads may get $200.

Vortec heads flow just as good or better out of the box than the double hump ( camel hump ) heads do. If someone has an old car wanting it to look period correct they might give you a lil more $$.
