Oil leaking woes!!!

I've got a 92 ta 350 tpi and it's leaking oil from the rear of the intake, at least that's what it looks like. It started this before so I put new intake gaskets on and I layed a nice thick bead of silicone on the front and rear. Took it out for a drive and once I got into it had a crap load of oil leaking from the rear. I'm not sure what else to try now. The only difference is when I was torquing the intake manifold bolts down I torqued them to 15lbs first then when I started to torque them to 30lbs the bolts started to strip (there old and original and have been taken off lots of times). So I stopped. I was able to get new bolts the next day and proceded to torque the intake manifold down. Now in me doing that would it cause a leak because I was unable to torque them down all the before the silicone set? Also am I better off using the china wall gaskets supplied with a bead of silicone or just the silicone? Thanks for any advice I really want this to be the last time I take this intake manifold off.

Re: Oil leaking woes!!!

Everyone I know always uses just the silicone for the end gaskets. Probably a stupid question here but did you verify that it wasn't the oil pressure sending unit leaking?

I haven't looked at it but I can see a giant trail of oil starting at the top of the intake down the top of the transmission. And oil is all over the firewall and the distrubutor cover. The sending unit is down by the oil filter I didn't think that would shoot way up there. I mean it's alot of oil. Almost like there was no silicone back there at all.

what about the distributor? Do you have the gasket on it? clean it all real good and start it and watch closely. I have seen lots of people put a big honkin splooge trail of rtv on the back and front wall and in the process of sitting the intake down move it. Just a little push and there isnt enough where it belongs.

Re: Oil leaking woes!!!

Yeah I'm gonna try it again tomorrow morning. It was real wet all over. I was thinking it was the dist but the gasket is on there and it was sitted all the way down. Although when I pulled it out I noticed oil between the gasket and the dist, thought it was weird. I also touched the rtv and noticed it could be moved quit a bit and when I wiggled it up and down the rtv on the inside of the block moved as well. Didn't think that was normal. Maybe I put too much on and didn't torque it down quick enough.
