T5 bench test before purchase

hey guys as you may know I killed my t5 this week, although I have not pulled the tranny yet I found a great deal on another t5. The only problem is that the tranny is too cheep $100 so i want to bench test it i figure all i can do is put it through the gears and make sure the tail shaft turns. Will i need any tools or can I turn it by hand? what does it weigh? is there any way to tell if the syncros are good? what should I do to it before installing it?

Thanks for reading!

Re: T5 bench test before purchase

OOps misplaced this one bump/move please mods

I got the t5 tonight it seems to go into all the gears it leaked some fluid out the tail while carrying though I thought only 700's did that. Is the rear seal on the yoke or the tail shaft on the t5? the input shaft moved up and down a little is this acceptable I have a feeling not?

Sounds like a T5. Put it in and let er eat. ALL trannys will leak out the back if the driveshaft's not in. And the input will NOT be "play" free. It will have some play....Put it in.

Re: T5 bench test before purchase

Think I should open her up and clean out any sediment? how do you know that my input shaft isn't too loose? What do you mean " let er eat", you mean destroy it again lol.

I would like to open up the access panel and compare my syncros <--spelling?
the old t5 shifted beautifully will I be able to tell if the ones in the new tranny are equal condition without disassembly?
