Need more info.
When was the last tune-up?
Have you changed anything?
How old is the gas?
Fuel filter?
Ohm the injectors?

How long has it sat? I left an 84 Dodge truck sit for 13 months, just parked it and disconnected the battery. Put a little gas in the carb so I wouldn't kill the battery trying to start it. Started up and ran fine, with some 13 month old gas.
Is your car a TBI, or TPI? If it's TBI have someone crank it and see if the injectors spray a cone.
If it's TPI, check the fuel pressure, if TBI, and the injectors don't fire, check the fuel pressure.
If the fuel pressure is good, sounds like an injector or wiring problem.

Re: 1992 camaro rs 305 v8 getting spark but wont start
its sat for about a year but it started back in august , the injectors are working fine spraying into the throttle body the spark is there at the plugs it tried to pop off the first time i started it the other day evry since it wont even try to start weve replaced the coil, cap, and rotor, plug wires, ingition module
when i tried to start it the first time we took the coil wire off to see if it was sparking and layed it on the distrubor and it tried to start and, the plug wires were set up so that number one plug was on the pass side of the distributor so im a little confused

it should spin clockwise(unless it's a boat motor!) number one on the cap should be the front righthand wire, marked by the " * " in my crappy diagram.
the firing order should be 18436572 unless the motor has a 4/7 swap cam.
rear of engine
_. .
. __.
*. . '
front of engine
I hope that helps, mismatched ignition wires suck!
Goodluck-

this might help
http://www.boxwrench.net/specs/chevy_sb.htm
Try changing the timing, does it backfire or stumble? does it do anything? It might be too far retarded or advanced. also, if it's getting too much fuel it won't start either. also, are you sure the fuel is any good? a year is a long tme for fuel to stay stable (or unstable depending on how you look at it!)

It should be on the passenger side, if you cut the distibutor in half, while standing at the front od the car it should be either the first or second on the left

whats the weather like where you are? is it cold, it might be flooding out, I know it's really easy to flood a carb car when it's cold, IDK about tbi. again though I would check your timing, I would also check all of you vacuum lines, a vaccuum leak can make anything hard to start, are you pumping the gas as you try to start it? how old is the gas?

Number 1 can be anywhere on the distributor. It just depends on how the distributor was dropped in.
You need to MECHANICALLY set it to #1 TDC intake. You may have set it on #1 TDC exhaust stroke. Intake/fire is when both valves are closed and the exhaust valve is the next to open. It's an easy mistake.
Once you have true TDC, pull the dizzy cap and see where the rotor is located. THAT is your number 1 cylinder regardless of where it is located. Install the wires as previously posted.

The old gas [I]should[I] still fire. If it's at least sputtering after verifying your plug order then you could hit it with some starting fluid. Be careful though. I've had a fireball come out of one of my birds before doing exactly what you're doing.

also, hes getting nothing, even with the timing off, he'd be gatting at least a couple of pops. my bet is on the fuel.

Stock it should be the left front terminal. Who's to say that the previous owner didn't pull it and drop it in a different spot. It's easy to do. Just turn the oil pump drive shaft and you can get the dizzy to drop in anywhere.
Fuel is a very good possibility. You absolutely have to make sure the firing order is correct though. As I previously stated, my order was off on my TBI and it fired off a nice flame 3 feet in front of my face.

Left and right are determined by the driver's point of view not standing in front of the car. So we may be talking about the same post.

on older (pre 1975 when HEI met the market) number one was the front right terminal, on 1975 and newer motors it's the front left. stock that is, and as you said, who knows what the previous owner did with the distributo!

Are you 100% sure that everything is hooked up correctly? If so, put a timing light on whatever wire you feel like using. Pull the trigger and have somebody crank the engine. The light sure fire. That'll verify spark but not verify the correct voltage.
There are a couple of tests you could run on the coil.
You should also verify that you hooked all the coil and ignition module wires up and that they have a good contact.

If you're on the correct stroke the next valve to open AFTER the piston goes down will be the exhaust valve.
