I dynoed my 383 yesterday and with a base tune and little timing w/o nitrous it put down 382rwhp and 425rwtq which is about 478hp and 531ft lbs tq at the crank with the following setup:
4bolt main 350 block notched and bored .030 over
Eagle forged one pc rear main crank
Scat forged I-beam rods
Wiseco Pro tru forged flat tops (11:1)
Comp Cams xr282hr10 cam
1.6 Crane Gold roller rockers
AFR 195's heads angle plug
Edelbrock High-Flo TPI base(not ported)
Accel Superram intake
FMS 30lb injectors
ATI Super Damper
Pete Jackson gear drive
SLP 1 3/4" headers
A little more timing and fueling and I should reach 400rwhp. Then I have 150 shot on top of that controlled by NMM just incase I run across one of those new Zr1's. You've heard of those right?
Good numbers! But even with a 150 shot you may need abit more to take on those ZR1's haha. They are quite the beast
Yeah possibly. With your numbers so far with a true 150whp shot you'll be well into the mid 10's at near 128-130mph. Thats where i was with about the same numbers. Thats a bolt on Z06, let alone a blown ZR1. Definately respectable
I dynoed my 406 this past January on a superflo 901. Engine is 10.5:1 with comp cams XE street roller 248/254 .614/.621 lift 110 lsa, edelbrock etec 200 heads with street strip port - just cleaned up the ports/valve guide area, super victor jr intake gasket matched to heads. With a holley hp 750 it made 520 hp and 508 ft. lbs torque. With a holley hp950 it made 530hp from 5900 to 6300 rpm and 520ft. lbs torque at 4700 rpm. The engine really liked the larger carb, at 3500 it was making 465 torque and 485 torque at 4000rpm.
Little different setup than what you have planned but hopefully gives you an idea what it takes to get over 500hp.
If thats a solid roller, it could use a nice 11 to 1 compression but it wont be that horrible on the street. Infact it would be pretty streetable with a good tune. 406 will eat up some cam. Its alot of overlap but open loop tune would be fine. Carb stuff i'm not so sure on.
The XE street rollers were designed for Hot Rod power tour type events. I've used larger solid rollers on the street in my Fords so this is mild compared to what I've put used in the past.
I actually have a solid roller race cam in mine, it is a 12-900-9, it is 252,258@.050 and .630 lift. You would be quite suprised at how driveable it actually is. I guess it must have to do with the radical ramps, but this cam is every bit as drivable as the 292 magnum it replaced, it pulls good vaccum and idles relitively well. Not to say I would reccomend this cam to a daily driver, but it makes for one hell of a fun weekend warrior!
Come Monday call Tony at AFR. Reason being they are about to market a new 227cc head and it might be what you are looking for. That being said he might very well recommend the 210cc head. Also get some camshaft advice while you are at it.
ok so here is an update on what i have done. i purchased a slightly used xr294 with some crane retro roller lifters and comp cam roller rockers and pushrods for 500. but i had some clearance issues with the cam so i sold that one and went with the xr288 and still had to advance it 4 degress to and use a .015 shim and a .041 gasket to gain descent clearance. quench suffered a bit which is at .064 with the deck height but i had to work with what i had i am overbudget as it is, however it is together and running and the shim did seal with the hylomar blue sealant on the block side but i will still keep a close eye on it. oh and i still have a 10.1:1 comp. ration. i also was afraid of radial clearance with the big 2.05 intake valve that comes with the afr 1034's that i installed. so i did some grinding on those and ported my edelbrock performer rpm to match up to my heads with a 1205 gasket. put on a cloyes timing cover and some nice aluminum valve covers and dyno dons headers. as well as a mighty demon 750cfm. and a sweet cog style billet aluminum pulley system and did away with my power steering. still need to get it tuned and the exhaust finished i will try to post pics

i ground out the pocket on the valve relief a little bit. with the advancing of the cam and the just the gasket i was at .095 exhaust and .065 intake clearance so i added the shim for more clearance. radial clearance before was real close at around .015 or less and my block deck height was .008
