Oil pump for 383
I have been looking at getting a new oil pump for my 383 and discovered there are two different kinds. High pressure, and high volume. Which one would be more efficent for my engine. 383 stroker 10.4-1 compression, with 58cc corvette heads, 1.6 roller rockers and comp cam 242. Any advice would be appricated. Thanks.

There are different schools of thought on this subject.
I opted for a high volume/high pressure. Many on here will tell you to do just a high volume. Do your research and make your own decision.

You don't even need either of those. A stock volume, stock pressure pump would be fine.

Re: Oil pump for 383
I have a stock volume/pressure pump in my 383 and I show all the oil pressure you could need. I also welded the pickup onto mine. (4x4).

Another vote for the stock volume/presure. Unless your bearing clearances are way off, but then you've got other problems. Or if you plan on running an auxilary cooler, you may need the extra volume/presure to get it all through the system without a ton of drop. Otherwise...stick to the stock stuff. The SBC oiling system is very good in factory trim.

If you go hi volume you should also get a bigger oil pan.
Here's my 383. Takes 8qt to change my oil.

High volume pumps don't need a bigger sump, but you can use one if you want.

I have a ZZ4 pump in the Camaro. The sucker will maintain 65 psi when the engine is fully warm, 35 at idle (I use AMSOIL 10W-30 oil).
The '57 likes a high volume high pressure pump. I tried a "normal" volume pump a couple of years ago based on statements such as above on this Board (was dealing with a pick-up detaching issue at the time), the oil pressure light would come on after the burn-out. Scary. Must be the solid lifters, didn't seem to need that much volume when it was hydraulic lifter. I went back to the HV/HP on it.
