How can I tell if my free long block I got has a perf cam?
Hey! I am just boggled by something, making sure my camshaft is stock or modded, or if I have a running problem, I cant tell
On a note, the engine does have GOOD power, revs also make the whole car lean, as seen in my exhaust video.
Now to the question, the camaro idles... its a 1991 305 long block I got, 2 bolt main. But here is what I am wondering... it lopes at idle. When I first start it, it idles high (1100-1200RPMs, noted in my exhaust video), but when it warms up and idle drops to normal, it lopes. It idles average between 700-800RPMs, with some minor dips and raises as the IAC tries to adjust for the lope. The idle shakes the whole car, and I have stock rubber mounts installed. The exhaust smells rich, but thats all. It revs really fast, in my exhaust video that was 3/4 throttle to 4000ish RPMs, and it has a stock flywheel. Tuned port injection with large intake runners, and 58mm throttle body. I am trying to build the engine slowly to make use of upper RPM powerbands rather than lower. Would a mild performance camshaft cause the rich smell at idle and lope? or could it just be running too rich and need the rich idle problem figured out, and the running rich causing a lope? Hopefully once its registered i can let you know about its full throttle power.
OH! and driving it, engaged clutch, at 1100ish RPMs, the engine bucks, but higher RPMs (2000-3000) for cruising it runs fine. Possibly caused by my 3" exhaust and 58mm throttle body, though, for that.

there isnt much of a upper RPM power band for a TPI 4800RPM is about the limit and will only drop off from there

For a stock TPI there isnt, I have to change it around, shorten the runners in the future, and change my heads out. Wider intake runners would also help. As I said, slowly working my way to it, but right now I am struggling to pay my bills. Anyway, no ideas on if its a cam or just a weird running rich problem?

you can get a cam degreeing kit, then find your cam specs with that. The first step, however, is simply check how much lift you're getting. The '91 LB9 cam should have about .269" intake lobe lift, and about .276" exhaust lobe lift. If you find more than that, then it has some other cam, give us the specs and we can give you a ballpark of the other specs.
