ok, i have a new duralast Gold batt, powermaster 140 amp alt, new charging wire as well. the batt is def good and being charged while driving and idle.. 14.4v steady. so that is good.

so the problem... when the motor is cold it starts fine. well takes a few turns but it starts. (probably because of the stock prom on modified motor but thats another issue). when the car has been running and gets hot if i shut it off it wont start back up until its cold again. usually about 20 min. it turns but very slowly and the volts drop to 8v or lower. it barely spins the motor and no where near fast enough to start it.

the main wire from the batt is 4 guage, same one i used in my old car with a 350. the starter is one of those usa remans that is about 5 years old. so im thinking it needs some replacing.

Any suggestions on what starter to get? i was looking at the powermaster mini high torque one for $125 on summit. i could use the clearance with the headers. anyone use that one or any of them? Thanks.

just think..... if its made in china it has way to many plastic parts.....metal not strong enough etc...... buy a good one .....

I've got a Powermaster starter and it's worked out great, it's adjustable too. (I needed it mostly for the clearance.) I do have it wrapped to protect it from heat. I don't recall what part number.

yeah. im prob gonna wrap it as well. but its weird cause i never had this problem with the old motor and not until last year. i think its just old and dying..

Just get a replacement or take-off LT1 starter.

I have this Powermaster starter and absolutley love it. Its tiny so putting it in and taking it out is no big deal. You can also spin the starter to clear anything and can use it on 153 or 168 tooth flexplates. I have longtubes and do not have my starter wrapped and I have no problems. On Powermasters website they say this one has built in heat shields and is made for motors that have problems with heat soak into the starter. You will not be dissapointed with this starter.

all these just started up parts companies out there these days...all you can get is junk any more.

I thought about trying a Delco-Remy from advance. at least it's a name brand I've heard of. I hate buying anything from autozone.
the only way I'll buy their stuff is if I'm broke down and stuck in their parking lot

I'll def consider that powermaster one though. I just didn't want to spend that kind of money right now. everyone around me is still unemployed and I'm worried about being unemployed myself. so I'm pinching my pennies. plus the car isn't a daily driver but it might be soon if the old lady finds a job.

ok cool thanks for the info guys! I think im gonna replace the main wire first with something a little bigger.. this way its the cheapest and easiest to do and rules it out if the problem does not go away. I dont know how much i want to spend on the starter tho.. the powermaster is nice and would def buy if i had the money. I might do a napa replacement for $60. i dunno yet.
