Timing problems

OK i did a new motor swap in my ride ,,, it's a 305 with a 400 crank with a cam... i got it from a local racer who said it had 30,000 miles on it out of his 84 z28.. this motor is tight... but my problem is the fact i cant' see my timing mark at all do to all the accessories in the front and the throttel body in the way,,, my brother said i need to use a electronic timing light ,,,he says just point it at the balancer and set the dizzy... i got it's close by ear (old school) not good enough.the dizzy is at TDC... it picks up slow ,you can feel it when you step on it..when on FWRY YOU STEP ON IT IW WILL SNAP YOUR HEAD BACK.. so can any one help me with this...

Thank you...64 elko

Re: Timing problems

Climb up on that engine and shoot that light right in between the water pump and the block or use a vacuum gauge.

Re: Timing problems

hi
tried that,,,the timeing marker is in the middle of the timing cover not like a stock 305 TPI marker witchis on the side or the timing cover ..the block was a CROSSFIRE 305 with twin TBI'S soi put my TPI ON IT, now the Throttle body is in the way...I can see the marker but you cant get a light on it to set it...
