swaping engines, need tune up?

alright i am swaping my 305 carbed out of my 85 z28 for another 305 that i think is exactly the same from another 85 camaro parts car that i have. It runs excellent fired her up about a month ago hadent ran for 6 years! i just put a battery in it, unhooked the gas lined and put it in a pepsi bottle filled with fresh gas and she didn't even crank 3 turns, i was amazed, no knocking no smoking, runs excelent! Now i want to do a tune up on it before installing it, i have a set of shorty headers here that i want to put on and thats about the only mod it will have (apart from edelbrock air cleaner). What are the best spark plugs i could use, and i will also change the spark plus wires, and should i change the cap? if so what is the best one i should get, and i was thinking of installing an accel super coil would it be worth it or is that just a waist of money for my set up. I am probably going to use the carb off my other engine since it was rebuilt not even a year ago. Anything else i should do to it before it goes in? thanks

also another quick question, i am going to install an electric fan i have in the parts car on this one, i know they sell thermo switches i believe they are called? for engaging the fan when the engine gets a certain temp, what temperature should i get? thanks

AC copper core plugs are fine.

Brand of cap isn't as important as getting one that has brass terminals instead of aluminum (you can tell by the color). Get a new rotor at the same time.

The stock coil is one of the weak points of the ignition. The Super Coil works fine (at least mine did), but I preferred one that fits in the cap like the stock coil. I had a Super Coil, switched to an MSD that fit in the cap. I used the Super Coil on the 396 in the '57, it worked fine in that as well.

Get a thermal switch that is about 20 degrees above your thermostat. Or, get an adjustable switch and set it there.

Re: swaping engines, need tune up?

okay thanks alot sounds like good advice, i got the plugs soaking in wd40 right now on the engine, they are pretty badly rusted i hope i don't break one :0, it looks like its gonna take me a while to get them out, i was thinking maybe i should wait till its in the car to change them??? I normally let the engine run till its fully warmed up and then take them out what do you guys think?
