yes very soon i will be doing my first head/cam install. 1992 camaro 350 might never run again. lol. anyway putting in afr heads and custom cam. Anyone have any pointers or tips before i dive in. thanks. Links to any good info on doing this would be nice.

where to start... well lube the cam lifters, both ends of the pushrods, rocker *****, and valve tips all real good when you put them in, while you have the oil pan off give the rods a wiggle, and if you want to one at a time pull the caps, and give em a look. to make sure wear is even, and clean (shud be but I would check i mean your there neway) oil pumps are cheap if you wanted to change it now would be the time, but just stay with whatever volume pump you already have. If it's a 2 piece block with a leaking rear main seal you could change it while your in there. Buy a good true roller chain from Cloyes, or Melling. If it's a late model block they both have this mean huge chain set made from like a motor cycle chain they don't hardly stretch at all. If it's an early motor just get the street true from local parts store probly have it hanging on the wall. When you hang the intake gaskets on the heads be sure they don't sag down and cover any part of the roof of the intake runners the floor isn't so crucial, but that gasket can make your heads look bad with just a little bit hanging down into the runner. Exhaust gaskets work about the same way make sure they don't hang down in the runner. Take a real good look at the pistons while your in there if you have access you might dial bore gauge the cylinders to see how worn they are. Tap the deck threads so the heads bolt on with proper torque, have thread sealant standing buy you will need a lot of it I would recommend the tub with the brush on the lid. Quadruple check the deck for any left over head gasket material. Don't worry about where the rotor is pointing as you are going to have to set it to tdc #1 neway. You will need a real long flat tip screw driver to turn the oil pump shaft to get it to engage with the distributor so you don't have to play a bunch of guessing games. Dont use the valley gaskets use silicon color of your choice. When you start getting mad at it stop and eat something then come back too it.
