hard time starting?

Car: 2001 Camaro SS
Engine: no engine yet :)
Transmission: T-56 with z06 drive gears
Axle/Gears: most likely 12 bolt or 9" with 3.91
hard time starting?
When i turn the key in my 87 Z28, it starts up fine on some cold starts and other times it very slowly turns over if i pump the gas just wondering anybody knows what causes this? i've actually had this problem with every 3rd i've ever owned 
whether i've been driving the car or not it cranks hella slow until i give it gas, of course when it's been driven and it's warm it's barely wants to start. main reason i went to a 4th gen and i've never had this problem with my 4th gen in the 5 1/2 years i've owned it and i've put +100K on it. anyways, on the 87 i had the battery checked today and it's 100%, so next on the check list is the starter and then if thats not it maybe the alternator??????? i don't have VATS so that wont be it. the car is a 5speed btw

Slow cranking is characteristic of a hot starter solenoid (common on our cars), remote mounting the solenoid will help with this. We need more information on this car? TBI/TPI/Carb? Hard starting after being ran is common with a carb due to boiling the fuel in the bowls. A spacer would assist in this. Let us know.

Computer controlled carb or not? A spacer wouldn't hurt to prevent fuel boiling in the bowls.

If you ever need, I have a freshly rebuild E4ME (Computer controlled Quadrajet) that I used once, then swapped the motor. It looks great, and works great. I payed $200 for it, I'd part with it for $100 (a steal).

can i put shielding on the starter to protect it from heat like we have on 4th gens or is remote mounting the solenoid the only answer?

did it run hella good on the engine and what size was the engine and mods? my buddy gave me one that he bought and a friend used on a 350 and since i put it on i have a vacuum leak and the car bucks when i let off the gas. i've never owned a manual so i'm not sure it thats normal or not but the bucking gets worse when it gets closer to 1500rpms

I had it running on a 305 (headers), it was built for a 350 though. So it ran a tad rich down low on my 305. The carb has all new sensors (TPS, MCS, ETC). The bucking can be in-proper pinion depth causing play in the rear-end.
A shield would help, I've never seen anyone do it though :P

i'll pull the starter off tomorrow and have it checked then see what i can do to protect the solenoid. i don't mess with wires cause i don't want to **** something up lol
