How can i get 300+ horse out of an 87 5.0 TPI?
Once i get this thing running again. Pretty sure the ecm failed. i'll find out wednesday. but anyways i'd like to wake up the 5.0 but i don't want to swap in a 350. the 305 was recently rebuilt, so i'd rather just check the clearances and put in a new cam port the heads. what would be a good cam to get me to 300 or more horse. i'm looking in to also gettin the tunercat to fine tune it once it gets modified. also does anyone know if anyone makes shorty headers that bolt to the factory y pipe?

To get it out of TPI you need a TPI-Vortec base, 059 heads, hotter EFI friendly cam, headers, and programming.

there was an article in 93, in the carcraft magazine about the 305/350 tpi engines.
clains that only changing headers, cam, and intake runners you get "just over 300 hp and 380 lbs.-ft torque. If u need i can send it for u , or just get the partnumbers

dnd_perf..i send the e-mail for u, also want to mention about the extrude honing,u can read about it in this forum( i don`t have it done, just read about it).
You should try to remove the screen from the mas airflow sensor, and bypass the throttle body.
It made a big difference on my car, of corse l98 head could give u even more hp.
More hp never hurts!!

i'll def look into that. the runners i found are a tad expensive, but what isn't with efi. i'd prefer to just work over the heads i have, but i guess that'll depend on prices of a good set of L98 heads go for. i also saw on austinthirdgen.org they have an article on removing the air temp sensor from the plenum and extending the harness and installing an air temp sensor from a 3.4 mpi in the intake ducting. might try that too. but i still gotta figure out why i don't have spark first. you can have all this good stuff, but whats it worth if it don't run?

Hypertech back in 1988 was getting a 100 hp improvement over stock with cam, headers, 160f thermostat and their chip. I dont recommend using the chip as there were issues with lean AFR at higher RPM, but a reflash of your PROM will do fine. Ive built 300+ HP TPI with stock PROM by raising fuel pressure and advancing base timing. However, a reflash will give you better drivability.
