i have an 89 camaro completely carb,with an 91 305 vortec block,edlejunk 600 carb ,my buddy told me i need a fuel return line,but it hasnt presented any problems to me, so what is the point of it and should i install one...?

Only if you are using a bypass style fuel reg that uses a return line

my regulator only has 1 inelet and 1 outlet so i dont need it right?

Are you using the in-tank fuel pump?

im using a 4-7 psi inline pump

Then no need for a return line.

But let me ask ... did you remove the in-tank pump and install a carb pickup?

If not, don't be surprised if that external pump doesn't burn itself out - it takes alot to draw fuel through a dead intank pump and that strain will most likely kill your external pump eventually.

I hate those in line electric pumps. I went through 3 in one year in my Lifted C10 because I didnt have a return line. I say go with a manual 110GPH pump from Summit. Only $50, you dont need a regulator or return line, and it supports up to 500hp.

You may not be able to mount a mechanical pump on a Vortec block.

Yea your right. I read somewhere that you can buy a kit that allows you to mount one, you just have to drill the hole in your block for the fuel pump pushrod. It sounds like kind of a hassle but may be worth looking into if you hate electric pumps as much as I do.

Obviously had something wrong with your setup then
The low pressure pumps that deadhead to the carb don't require a return and run forever

I had good fuel pressure every time I changed to a new one. Then sure enough about three months later it wouldnt start and I was only getting about 1 1/2 psi. After the third pump I said screw it and bought a mechanical 110Gph pump. It has kept a consistent 7 to 8 psi going on 2 years now with no problems. The electric pumps I was buying were cheap autozone Spectra pumps, that might have had something to do with it. Having a return line will make the pump quieter, last longer, more consistent fuel pressure, and colder fuel for the engine.
