Ok, long story short, I (after an long time of putting it off) finally got around to installing my 180? themostat, so anyhow after some struggle, I finally got the ol thermostat out and stuck the new themostat and gasket on and whatnot.

Well started tightening down the bolts, got the one the closes to the front of the car, didnt get it all the way tight, but got it seated, and then worked with the bolt with the stem, it took an while because im using an open end wrench, but it works

The bolt went in fine from the begging, then it suddenly got much much harder to tighten when the bolt wasnt even half way in

I took the bolt out and retried thinking I didnt get it into the threads right, same thing happened

Then I noticed when I would start tightening down the bolt, it would turn cricked and would be smashed against the side of the bolt whole, which was making it hard to turn.

Well I though maybe theres something inside the bolt hole causing that, took and screwdriver and scrapped what I could out of gunk, same problem still, and I even tried with each turn tapping the bolt with a hammer to set it in straight, still the same problem

Well iv brought it down to that the threads inside the bolt hole must somehow be damaged causing the bolt to be twisted to the side, as the bolt itself appears to be in ok shape, problem is HOW DO I FIX/CREATE NEW THREADS!? I dont even know where to begin with this.

Help! And I need to fix this soon! The car is halway into the garage so the door is left open and theres no way tell I get everything back in place to get the car fully inside the garage!

Are you sure your putting the right bolt back in that hole? Sometimes there is a shorter bolt and a longer bolt, or maybe you just grabbed the wrong one.

1) Try another bolt - nothing fancy about them, any hardware store bolt the right size
2) Chase the threads - ie get a tap/die set and run the right size tap down the hole to regroove the threads correctly
3) New intake
4) Push the car into garage.

Iv tried using another bolt, didnt work out for me still
and im POSITIVE im using the correct bolt, no doubt at ALL

how much are those tap n die sets? Dont i need a drill to use them?

Do you think it could be possibly from using an open end wrench and not a socket is why its turning to the side because im at the side and thats the way the bolt ends up turning is towards me when it sticks.

Once I "break" either of the bolts on my water inlet (that's what that neck is called) I can hand loosen or tighten them.

tap and die set (auto parts store or Sears)

If you have to go a bit bigger, then you'll need a new bolt (local hardware store)

if you can't get it to work, then you would be replacing the intake manifold (expensive lesson for crossing threads)

and with respect to using an open end wrench; there's no excuse

this set is cheap and has most of the sockets to get you started, both metric and sae

Well I have an fair amount of sockets, as I have never needed one that I didnt have before... until this time of course.

Im going see if I can get a friend with an tap/die set to help me I guess, as I dont have the money to buy an set and who knows if I'll even know how to use it...
