Swirl port heads on "vortec" 350 engines from 87 or so until 95. They will help your gas mileage but won't help performance. You can buy them all day long from fliteline for $100 each completely rebuilt.

Re: 193 heads?

they look jest like the vortec heads
Ummm,,,, ..... no. The swirlies have their intake ports in the old location, like all old "pre-Vortec" heads. NO WAY to confuse them. You can spot the difference from 100 yards away.

new guides,Re-surfaced,3 angle valve job,mild porting,120lbs springs,all new hardware
Not to be mean; but, ever heard of the concept of "polishing a turd"? (like, what do you have when you get done doing that?) That's what just happened.

only good up to 4,500rpm
And even THAT is somewhat optimistic.

im having a hard time finding vortec heads
Can't imagine how; they're EVERYWHERE. 96-2000 Chevy/GMC truck 350s ALL have em. Just go to the junkyard and tell em you want heads for your 97 Chevy truck. DO NOT utter the word "Vortec", DO NOT come across like a hot-rodder, pretend (or maybe you don't have to? that's cool too) you're a plumber or a tree service or something and need to get your work truck back on the road, have em hand you a set of heads and look for castnig # 906 or 062, don't take em if they're not, don't tell em why, just tell em these don't look the same and mutter something incoherent about the intake bolts, make em bring you heads until you see the right thing.

can i run a vortec intake with these
No. Vortec intake ports won't line up with the head ports in the swirlies (or any other heads besides Vortecs).

are they better then the stock 350 heads back in the day?
Not really; they just suck in a different way. There's lots of ways for heads to suck.

i want to run mid 13s in the 1/4 mile the car weights around 4075 lb
Then throw those swirlies away and quit spending money on em. NO WAY IN HELL they'll get you anywhere close to 13s in that sled.
