Pass smog in CA w/o A.I.R.?
I have an '83 LG4 with headers that have the o2 bung but no provisions for the A.I.R. lines. Aside from the visual inspection, is it possible to pass the sniffer in CA without A.I.R. injection?

Probably not.
It's purely an academic question though; in practice, it won't even get that far. It'll fail the visual and that will be the end of that, before they bother to dyno it.

Hypothetically speaking, if the smog tech thought he saw regular logs sitting there with A.I.R. injection all hooked I was wondering if it would pass number wise.

The job of the catalyitc converter is to combine the last little bit of unburned and partially burned fuel (HCs and CO) with oxygen. It can't do that without oxygen. That comes from the AIR.
Not sure about how you get from "headers that have the o2 bung but no provisions for the A.I.R. lines" to "logs sitting there with A.I.R. injection all hooked". Either you DO have provisions for the lines, or you DON'T. If you DO, hook em up, and life will be good. If you DON'T, take em off, and get something else that does.
Doesn't too much matter what number it would "hypothetically" blow. That would largely depend on your tuning skill. however all that might be, it won't pass, without all that stuff there and operating.

Re: Pass smog in CA w/o A.I.R.?
What i was discreetly trying to say was that I found someone that will skip the visual and run numbers only. He doesn't care what kind of exhaust I have. I just don't want to swap out my headers if it can pass the sniffer test with out the A.I.R. pump. I realize the Cat may not be able to put out low enough CO/HC without the A.I.R. pump's help but was curious to see if anyone had tried it in CA.

Pretty generous person, all things considered...
Regardless, don't expect miracles. You might get lucky, who knows, but it's not real likely.

Put all the original stuff on for the test and take it off after. You only have to do it every two years. In any case, if you or the tech get caught you'll get a ticket and a fine if everything isn't right.

Go for a good drive to get things all warmed up and test it right away. Maybe have him look at the numbers before the actual test to see if it'll pass.

Ya I know I should just go get stock mainfolds/y-pipe/ and do it legit I'm just lazy. I will have them run the numbers with a new cat and if it doesn't pass, put on the stock stuffs.
