1989 Camaro w/305 has toxic fumes
I took the smog pump and catalytic converter off my '89 Camaro that has a 305 engine in it with fuel injection. Research told me there would be no negative effects, but shortly after that my car exhaust became very rich, emitting fumes like a 1950 log truck. The car has 92,000 miles, has been babied all its life and never even ran hard. It has smoked a little for years upon startup because of slightly leaking valve stem seals, but otherwise been problem free. Does anyone have a clue why this is happening or if it is indeed caused by my modifications?

Removing emissions equipment leads to worse emission out of the tail pipe. Your research was flawed.

Thanks for the reply Travis. I suspect you are correct, but I have had many cars without a smog pump or a catalytic converter that didn't do this. PLUS there are hundreds of people on just this one web site that have eliminated these items and not had the results I have.
