Possible vats issue?

This started after replacing the pass side valve cover. Everything was fine, started it and had it running more times then I can count. Once I was confident everything was fine I went to take it for a test drive, this time no crank. Fuel pump primes and that's about it. Thinking it was the starter I tried jumping power to it, much to my suprise it started right up, for a second. It seems the fuel pump doen't receive power after the initial prime. No security light (at all, not even when first turning the key during the gauge check). I checked for codes but nothing except 12. Does the vats system store codes? Is there another way to check vats codes?

Re: Possible vats issue?

VATS will disable the starter and fuel injectors. My car did someting like this. the light would not come on at all so I hit the dash and the light came on lol. But the security light is supposed to come on for a few sec. then go off if there is no problems. But if the light is not coming on at all try the ole hit the dash trick lol or the bulb may be blown. But I can not remember if there is a code fot vats or not.
Sound to me like it may be your problem.

Re: Possible vats issue?

Well after measuring the resistance of my key and comparing the value to the value present at the end of the connector from the ignition cylinder I discovered it is in fact open. Unsure why there was no security light when trying to start but there is now with it unplugged. Fow now I made a bypass module with wiring from an old ign cyl i had laying around along with a resistor. Works fine but now I have a car thats real easy to steal. Eventually when I have some extra $$ I'll buy a replacement cyl.

Re: Possible vats issue?

did you wire the bypass in after the connector going to the ign? if you did just unplugg the connector and take you bypass with you so no one can start it
