Starter issues

Hello fellow camaro owners.

I have a proform torque starter on my sbc. I got it new 3 years ago prolly started my 357 5 times n that time because of money issues.

Now that i have been startin it. It sqeals really bad at the start up but when u put ur foot on gas a lil it goes away. Now it came with 2 lil shims. Ive set under the car for hours takin them in and out pullin the gear into the flexplate getting it lined up best as possible. It starts no problem is jus sqeals.

The only thing i can think of is the gear isnt disengaging all the way and spinning with the flexplate? Tbh i have learned everything on my own and from this site and This site has gotten me a very long way.

Any advice on wat i should do to stop it from sqealing would be greatly aprreciated.

Re: Starter issues

sounds like your on the right track, there should be about .035 clearance between the bottom of the gears when they mesh so basically a paperclip distance. sounds like it has been stuck in the flexplate and not disengaged. there should be a bushing that the starter gear rides in that is damaged or un lubricated.
