motor mount installation help....

I'm about to drop a freshly built small block in my 87 camaro. So i thought i might as well upgrade to the pollyurethane mounts while the engine is out.

The two bolts on the top part of the mount are really hard to get to. The k-member is hollow and there is a tiny hole off to the side that i'm trying to fish a wrench through to get to the bolt.

You would think changing them would be extremely simple. Is there any other easier way to get to the bolt? I know alot of ya'll on here have done this. I just want to know if there is a trick or special tool I don't know about.

while i've done them before with the a-arms in place, its a bear. need to be creative with angled wrenches or sockets and swivel joints. when it came time to do it again on my last swap, the a-arms were removed. still not the most fun stuff to reach, but much more reasonable than trying to fight with those as well.

It is a pain in the butt, you can do it. I forget which holes I used in the K member but with a open end wrench, offset box end and regular box end I made it. I also used tape on the bottom of a box end wrench to hold the nut in place.

Re: motor mount installation help....

no real trick or special tool. a lot of reaching, straining, trying different wrenches, sockets, swivels, and a lot of cursing. like dan said, its a bit easier if you dont have the a arms in the way.
