84 camaro 305 H.0 power adder's
hey guys, i was thinking of doing an engine swap to an L98 out of a newer camaro, but ive been thinking, if i can make enough power to burn around town and take to the strip and Run 12.9-13 second 1/4's i would be happy would this be possible with 3.43 rear gears?, and 305 H.O?, it is running a CCC Quadrajet, everything is stock for now, i have 255/60r15's in the rear and 215/65r15's in the front, for the time being i can spend a little money on this 305, i dont want to dump more then 500$, im sure 500 could get me a little boost in performance till i can afford a nice crate motor, its running a 700R4 i was thinking of giving it a B&M shift kit and corvette servo, i was always told to run 3.73's in the rear, what about 4.10's?, stock is 3.43 i beleive, just over all power adders i would like more knowledge about, i'd like the best bang for the few dollars i have 500 on the motor, and 500 on tranmission parts and rear end components, if you guys could carry on some more that would be perfect thanks!

For the best bang/buck on a carb'd 305,
look for a used Edelbrock RPM intake for sale,
and improve your exhaust system.
Stainless headers aren't cheap, but they will last.
A 1 5/8" primary or 1.75" primary header is a little too big for a 305, but it will do the job, and you can use them on your next engine when you upgrade.
Look for a used underdrive crank pulley online and at swap-meets.
These parts will all swap over to a larger engine with no problem.
These modifications will not be enough to get you into the 12's, and probably not 13's either.
It generally takes a much larger budget, OR extensive DIY modifications to a 305 to get that level of performance.
The only budget way around that is to add a small nitrous system of about 100 horsepower.
I don't recommend changing your rear gear ratio, especially if you have 3.42:1 gears right now.

I have an 84 HO, it had a 3.73 rear end as standard. With a performer RPM, Holley 600, headers and street tyres it ran 14.7, with a 75 shot 13.9.
